Helping youth revive the lost art of 'Gulingtangan'

PLAYING the Gulingtangan, one of Brunei's traditional instruments, is a lost art that should be revived and practised by the youth.
A representative from Tutong's Youth and Sports Department told The Brunei Times that a four-day Gulingtangan Workshop was held recently for youths aged between 10 and 25 to ensure that the traditional art will be kept alive by the younger generation.
Organised by the Tanjung Maya Tutong Association (Pertama) and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the workshop had a total of 63 participants with four ministry representatives well-versed on the art of Gulingtangan facilitating activities.
During the closing on May 14, Pertama President Hj Ismail Hj Parun encouraged the youth to continue practising an art considered as their cultural heritage.
Participants gave Gulingtangan performances during the closing ceremony. The event began on May 11.
